WHAT IS VACCICKECK?
Vaccicheck is a test which measures the circulating antibodies for
- Infectious Hepatitis (ICH)
- Parvovirus (CPV)
- Distemper (CDV)
HOW IS IT PERFORMED?
A sample of blood is measured through the test kit which then gives a result in 21 minutes.
WHY IS VACCICHECK SO IMPORTANT?
Vaccicheck is a reliable method of determining whether or NOT your dog needs an annual vaccination.
Over vaccination can cause serious damage to a dog's health and should therefore be avoided.
Vaccicheck takes the worry out of wondering if your animal is adequately protected and prevents the need for guesswork.
VACCINES ARE NOT RISK FREE
The more of them you subject your dog to, the greater the chance he will experience a vaccine reation, some of which are so catastrophic they can affect the animal for the rest of its life.
OVER VACCINATING AN ANIMAL DOES NOT PROVIDE GREATER PROTECTION TO CORE DISEASES.
Please note some of the key recommendations and discussion points that the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines Group has recently published in the “VACCINATION GUIDELINES FOR NEW PUPPY OWNERS”:
- “Core vaccines should not be given any more frequently than every three years after the 12 month booster injection following the puppy/kitten series, because the duration of immunity (DOI) is known to be many years and may be up to the lifetime of the pet.”
- “ A high percentage (98%) of core puppy vaccines given between 14-16 weeks of age will provide immunity against parvovirus, distemper and adenovirus for many years, and probably for the life of the animal.”
- “The WSAVA supports the use of titre testing. This is where a small sample of blood is taken from the dog and checked for the presence of circulating antibodies. The presence of circulating antibodies indicates that the dog is immune, and revaccination (with core vaccines) is not required. You may decide to titre test before giving the 12 month booster, as this may show that boosting is unnecessary.
WILL NOT ANNUALLY VACCINATING MY DOG AFFECT MY INSURANCE?
The answer is no it won't, unless of course your dog were to develop a core disease and the chances of this are highly unlikely, especially if you know your dog's status regarding immunity because he has been Vaccichecked. It is however advisable to check this out with individual insurers.
WHAT ABOUT IF I WANT TO PUT HIM INTO KENNELS?
Then you should contact the kennel to advise them that your dog has been Vaccichecked and he has an immunity certificate, provided by a veterinary surgeon, it is then up to the kennel owner to decide the policy on this, the good news is more and more home minders, kennels and training clubs will accept Vaccicheck, as soon as they know what it is.
